Install the air baffle

Use this information to install the air baffle.

About this task

S033
240VA shock hazard
CAUTION

Hazardous energy present. Voltages with hazardous energy might cause heating when shorted with metal, which might result in spattered metal, burns, or both.

S017
moving parts
CAUTION
Hazardous moving fan blades nearby. Keep fingers and other body parts away.
Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines to ensure that you work safely.

  • Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.

Procedure

  1. Take the new part out of the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
  2. Prepare your server.
    1. Power off the server.

    2. Remove the top cover. See Remove the top cover.

    3. Record and disconnect any cables. See Internal cable routing.

    4. Remove any components that are impeding the procedure.

    5. Install any components that are required before installing or removing the component(s).

  3. If 1U standard heat sink is installed, install the 2 fillers to fill the gap between the heat sink and the air baffle.

  4. Note the orientation of the air baffle.
  5. Align the tabs on both sides of the air baffle with the corresponding slots on both sides of the chassis. Then, lower the air baffle into the chassis and press the air baffle down until it is securely seated.
    Note
The illustrated air baffle is a standard air baffle. The installation procedure is the same for GPU air baffle.
