Applying Lenovo SDI Management Platform licenses

Lenovo SDI Management Platform is a paid application. A free trial license provides free use of the Lenovo SDI Management Platform for up to 90 days; however, after the free trial expires, you must purchase and install an appropriate license to continue using applicable Lenovo SDI Management Platform features and obtain Lenovo SDI Management Platform services and support.

Before you begin

For information about purchasing Lenovo SDI Management Platform licenses, contact your Lenovo representative or authorized Business Partner.

A license is required for each managed device that supports advanced functions.

Ensure that you are a member of a user group to which the predefined Supervisor role is assigned.

About this task

The Lenovo SDI Management Platform supports the following types of licenses:

  1. Each supported Lenovo device on the Lenovo SDI Management Platform requires a license of this type. You can view hardware-related information of the Lenovo cluster only after you install this license.

  2. Each non-Lenovo device on the Lenovo SDI Management Platform for Generic Hardware requires a license of this type. This license only provides management functions independent of cluster hardware.

The activation period starts when the licenses are redeemed.

Licenses are installed using a license activation key. After you redeem licenses, you can create an activation key for all or a subset of your available licenses, and then download and install the activation key in Lenovo SDI Management Platform.

License compliance is determined based on the number of managed devices. You must purchase a license for each managed device to obtain Lenovo SDI Management Platform's services and technical support. The number of managed devices must not exceed the total number of licenses in all active license keys. When the number of Lenovo SDI Management Platform licenses is not compliant (for example, if the number of additional devices that are managed exceeds the total number of active licenses), all functionalities are disabled and you must purchase and install a license to continue using applicable Lenovo SDI Management Platform functions and get platform services and support.

When you upgrade Lenovo SDI Management Platform or if an error requiring you to restore the activation keys occurs, you can either use the exported keys or download all activation keys (for each customer ID) from the Feature on Demand web portal, and then import the activation keys (either as individual activation keys or collectively as a key ZIP file) into Lenovo SDI Management Platform.

You can view a list of your current software licenses from the Features on Demand web portal.
