Remove the serial port module

Follow instructions in this section to remove the serial port module.

CAUTION

The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.

Attention

• Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

• If applicable, remove the security bezel. See Remove the security bezel.

• Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

• If the server is installed in a rack, remove the server from the rack. See Remove the server from the rack.

Procedure

1. Make preparation for this task.
   1. Remove the top cover. See Remove the top cover.
   2. Remove PCIe riser 1. See Remove the PCIe riser assembly. The serial port cable is disconnected from the system board when removing PCIe riser 1.
2. Open the retainer, and remove the screw that secures the module.

3. Carefully slide the module out of the slot.
   Note

   If no replacement module or adapter is to be installed in Slot 5, install the slot filler.
