Remove the M.2 boot adapter

Follow instructions in this section to remove the M.2 boot adapter.

CAUTION
The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.
Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

  • If the server is installed in a rack, remove the server from the rack.

  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.

Procedure

  1. Make preparations for this task.
    1. Remove the top cover. See Remove the top cover.
    2. Disconnect the M.2 boot adapter cables from the system board. See M.2 boot adapter cable routing.
    3. Remove the PCIe riser assembly. See Remove the PCIe riser assembly.
    4. Remove the M.2 boot adapter assembly from the PCIe riser assembly. See Remove a PCIe adapter.
    5. Remove the M.2 drives from the M.2 boot adapter. See Remove an M.2 drive.
  2. Disconnect the cables from the M.2 boot adapter.

    1. Unhook the wire bail on the cable from the connector.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the M.2 boot adapter.
  3. Remove the M.2 boot adapter from the PCIe adapter.
    1. Remove the screw that secures the M.2 boot adapter to the PCIe adapter.
    2. Loosen the captive screw on the M.2 boot adapter.
    3. Slightly slide the M.2 boot adapter and carefully separate it from the PCIe adapter as shown.

After you finish

  1. Install a replacement unit. See Install the M.2 boot adapter.

  2. If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
