Install the M.2 boot adapter

Use this information to install the M.2 boot adapter.

CAUTION
The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.
Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

  • If the server is installed in a rack, remove the server from the rack.

  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.

Firmware and driver download: You might need to update the firmware or driver after replacing a component.

Procedure

  1. The system only supports PCle adapters with low-profile bracket. If the PCIe adapter for M.2 boot adapter is installed with a full-height bracket, replace it with the low-profile bracket.

  2. Install the M.2 boot adapter to the PCIe adapter.
    1. Align the M.2 boot adapter with the T-head pin on the PCIe adapter and slide it in place as shown.
    2. Tighten the captive screw on the M.2 boot adapter.
    3. Tighten the screw to secure the M.2 boot adapter to the PCIe adapter.

  3. Connect the cables to the M.2 boot adapter.

    1. Connect the cable to the M.2 boot adapter.
    2. Hook the wire bail on the cable onto the connector.

After you finish

  1. Install the M.2 drives to the M.2 boot adapter. See Install an M.2 drive.

  2. Install the M.2 boot adapter assembly to the PCIe riser assembly. See Install a PCIe adapter.

  3. Install the PCIe riser assembly. See Install the PCIe riser assembly.

  4. Connect the M.2 boot adapter cables to the system board. See M.2 boot adapter cable routing.

  5. Install the top cover. See Install the top cover.

  6. Complete the parts replacement. See Complete the parts replacement.
