Install the 7mm drive backplanes

Use this information to install the 7mm drive backplanes.

About this task

Attention
  • Read Installation guidelines to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and disconnect all power cords for this task.

  • Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.

Procedure

  1. Touch the static-protective package that contains the new backplanes to any unpainted surface on the outside of the server. Then, take the new backplanes out of the package and place them on a static-protective surface.
  2. Install the 7mm drive backplane at the bottom.

    1. Put the backplane down on the cage as shown.
    2. Install the two screws to secure the backplane in place.
  4. Connect the cables from the backplanes to the system board and riser slot. See 7mm drive backplane.

After you finish

  1. Install the 7mm drive cage assembly on the rear chassis. See Install the rear drive assembly.

  2. Reinstall all the drives and fillers (if any) into the drive bays. See Install a 2.5/3.5-inch hot-swap drive.

  3. Complete the parts replacement. See Complete the parts replacement.
