Technical rules for HBA/RAID adapters

The following are installation rules to install HBA/RAID adapters:
  • If you plan to use the RAID 530-8i adapter in the server, it must have firmware 50.3.0-1032 or later applied before it can be used in the server. If the adapter you plan to use has older firmware, it must first be upgraded by installing it in a supported server and upgrading the firmware there. For more information, see https://datacentersupport.lenovo.com/us/zh/solutions/ht509177.

  • If a 730-8i 2G, 930-8i, 930-16i, 930-8e, 930-16e , 940–8e, 940-8i or 940-16i RAID/HBA adapter is installed, a super capacitor must be installed.

  • The RAID 940 adapters can be mixed with the ThinkSystem 440-8i SAS/SATA PCIe Gen4 12Gb HBA and the ThinkSystem 440-16i SAS/SATA PCIe Gen4 12Gb HBA.

  • The RAID 940/440 adapters cannot be mixed with the RAID 930/730/530/430 adapters.

  • The RAID 540-8i adapter can be mixed with other x40 series RAID/HBA adapters.

  • 730-8i 1G RAID adapter cannot be mixed with 530-8i, 730-8i 2G, or 930-8i RAID/HBA adapter.

  • When a 730-8i 1G or 530-8i RAID/HBA adapter installed, no super capacitor is supported.

  • HBA adapter cannot be mixed with RAID adapter. However, for the configuration of eight 2.5 SAS/SATA drives in front bays and two 2.5 SAS/SATA drives in rear bays, you can select 530-8i RAID/HBA adapter for front drives and 430-8i for rear drives.

  • For PCIe SSD adapter:
    • Only high-performance fan can be installed.

    • The TDP for supported processor is 120/155 watts.

  • The HBA 430/440 adapters do not support the Self-Encrypting Drive (SED) management feature.

  • If a RAID 730-8i 1 GB/2 GB adapter is installed, ThinkSystem 2.5"/ 3.5" PM1653 Read Intensive SAS 24 Gb SSDs and ThinkSystem 2.5" PM1655 Mixed Use SAS 24 Gb SSDs cannot be installed.
