Install a 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch hot-swap drive

Follow the instructions in this section to install a 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch hot-swap.

About this task

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.

  • To ensure that there is adequate system cooling, do not operate the server for more than two minutes without either a drive or a drive filler installed in each bay.

For a list of supported drives, see Lenovo ServerProven website.

Firmware and driver download: You might need to update the firmware or driver after replacing a component.

Procedure

  1. Touch the static-protective package that contains the new part to any unpainted surface on the outside of the server. Then, take the new part out of the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
  2. (Optional) Remove the drive filler from the drive bay and keep the drive filler in a safe place.
  3. Install the drive in the drive bay.

    2. Close the drive tray handle to lock the drive in place.
  4. Check the drive LEDs to verify that the drive is operating normally. For details, see Drive LEDs.
  5. Continue to install additional hot-swap drives if necessary.

After you finish

  1. Reinstall the security bezel if you have removed it. See Install the security bezel.

  2. Use the Lenovo XClarity Provisioning Manager to configure the RAID if necessary. For more information, see: Lenovo XClarity Provisioning Manager portal page
