Remove the server cover

Follow the instructions in this section to remove a server cover.

  • Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.

  • If the server is in a rack, remove it from the rack.

Attention
For proper cooling, always install the server cover before powering on the server. Operating the server without the cover properly installed might result in server component damage.

Procedure

Remove the server cover.
  1. Use the key attached to the rear of the server to unlock the cover lock.
  2. Slide the server cover towards the rear of the server until the server cover is disengaged from the chassis. Then, lift the server cover off the chassis and place it on a flat clean surface.

After this task is completed

  1. Install a replacement unit. See Install a server cover.

  2. If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
