Hot-Plug CPU and Memory – Linux

Some Linux kernels do not support hot-plug of CPU and/or memory. This can affect Linux instances created from ISO or from a template created from an imported VM.

This issue also affects the following Lenovo Cloud Marketplace templates:

• Ubuntu 16.04 - Firemon Immediate Insight
• Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (64-bit)

Solution

Compile a new kernel with CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU and CONFIG_NUMA enabled. Please see these third-party articles for more information: CPU and memory.
