Mirror consistency group degraded

The age of the recovery point on the secondary side of an asynchronous mirror consistency group has exceeded the recovery point alert setting.

This problem occurs for the following reasons:
  • The network performance between this (local) storage array and the remote storage array is degraded

  • The recovery point alert setting is too low for the current bandwidth between the storage arrays involved in the mirroring relationship. If the setting is set too low, the amount of data that must be synchronized cannot be handled.

Important
  • The mirror consistency group is still functional; however, if this problem is occurring frequently, you should run a communication test to diagnose potential network problems between the storage arrays involved in the mirroring relationship. The recovery point alert setting should also be evaluated to determine if the setting is appropriate for the mirroring configuration.

  • If the mirroring configuration is designed to be used in a fail-over/disaster recovery situation, repeatedly getting this problem may indicate that the mirroring configuration is not within the design objectives for a fail-over/disaster recovery situation.

Recovery Steps

  1. Run a communication test to check the network performance between the two storage arrays.

    1. Go to Storage > Asynchronous Mirroring. Then, select the Mirror Consistency Groups tab.

    2. Highlight the affected mirror consistency group shown in the Details area.

    3. Select Test Communication. It may be necessary to run the tests in different combinations to diagnose the problem.

  2. Ensure that the recovery point alert setting is appropriate for your mirroring configuration.

    1. Go to Storage > Asynchronous Mirroring. Then, select the Mirror Consistency Groups tab.

    2. Highlight the affected mirror consistency group shown in the Details area.

    3. Select Edit settings under More and adjust the recovery point alert setting appropriately.

  3. Select Clear to clear this problem.

  4. Select Recheck to ensure the problem has been resolved.
