IOM (ESM) uncertified

The storage array currently contains a drive shelf that has one or more uncertified IOMs. This can be caused by one of the following conditions: (1) You added or replaced an entire drive shelf that has one or more uncertified IOMs, or (2) You replaced an IOM with an uncertified one.

  • If all of the IOMs in the drive shelf are uncertified, the drives in the drive shelf will be automatically spun down (failed) to avoid potential damage to the drives. If the drives are spun down, there may also be drive, volume, and channel failures listed in the Problems area. However, complete the steps below first and the other failures should be corrected.

  • If the drive shelf has two IOMs and only one is uncertified, you should correct this condition as soon as possible. If the certified IOM or its communication path fails, the drive shelf will become uncertified and all I/O to that drive shelf will fail.

  • The fault indicator light on the uncertified IOM will not be lit.

CAUTION
Risk of data loss

Make sure you correctly identify the affected IOM. Removing the remaining certified IOM or disconnecting drive shelf cables to it while I/O is in progress can cause data loss.

CAUTION
Electrostatic discharge can damage sensitive components

Always use proper anti-static protection when handling components. Touching components without using a grounding wrist strap may damage equipment.

Recovery Steps

  1. Did you recently add or replace the drive shelf shown in the Location field in the Details area?

    • If yes, remove the affected drive shelf and contact your Technical Support Engineer to obtain a certified drive shelf and to help you resolve this problem. Go to step 7.

    • If no, go to step 2.

  2. Did you recently replace the affected IOM shown in the Location field in the Details area?

    • If yes, contact your Technical Support Engineer to obtain a certified drive shelf. Go to step 3.

    • If no, contact your Technical Support Engineer to help resolve this problem.

  3. Label each cable connected to the uncertified IOM to ensure proper reconnection.

  4. Remove the uncertified IOM and replace it with an IOM having the same hardware type and firmware version.

  5. Reconnect the cables and then wait 40 seconds.

  6. If applicable, fix any Loss of Redundancy problems listed in the Problems area before going to step 7.

  7. Select Recheck to ensure the problem has been resolved.
