Disassemble the server for chassis recycle

Follow the instructions in this section to disassemble the server before recycling the chassis.

About this task

Attention

  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

  • If the server is installed in a rack, remove the server from the rack.

  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.

  1. Remove the power supply unit. See Remove a hot-swap power supply unit.
  2. Remove the security bezel. See Remove the security bezel.
  3. Remove the rack latches. See Remove the rack latches.
  4. Remove all the drives. See Remove a simple-swap drive or Remove a hot-swap drive.
  5. Remove the top cover. See Remove the top cover.
  6. Remove the air baffle. See Remove the air baffle.
  7. Remove the PCIe riser assembly. See Remove the PCIe riser assembly.
  8. Remove the flash power module. See Remove the flash power module.
  9. Remove the fixed power supply unit. See Remove the fixed power supply unit.
  10. Remove the power distribution board. See Remove the power distribution board.
  11. Remove all the fans. See Remove a fan.
  12. Remove all the backplanes and backplates. See Remove the 2.5-inch backplane, Remove the 3.5-inch backplane, or Remove the 3.5-inch backplate.
  13. Remove the front I/O module. See Remove the front I/O module (2.5-inch drive model) or Remove the front I/O module (3.5-inch drive model).
  14. Remove the VGA cable. See Remove the VGA cable (2.5-inch drive model) or Remove the VGA cable (3.5-inch drive model).
  15. Remove the CMOS battery (CR2032). See Remove the CMOS battery (CR2032).
  16. Remove the memory modules. See Remove a memory module.
  17. Remove the heat sink. See Remove the heat sink.
  18. Remove the processor. See Remove the processor.
  19. Remove the system board. See Remove the system board.

After disassembling the server, recycle the unit in compliance with local regulations.
