CAUTION
Sharp edges, corners, or joints nearby.
Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

  • Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.

Procedure

  1. Make preparations for this task.
    1. Remove the quick connect plugs from the manifolds. See Remove the manifold (in-rack system) or Remove the manifold (in-row system).
    2. Remove the server from the rack. See Server replacement.
    3. Remove the top cover. See Remove the top cover.
    4. Remove the air baffle. See Remove the air baffle.
    5. Disconnect the liquid detection sensor module cable of the Processor Neptune Core Module from the connector on the system board assembly.
      Attention
To avoid damaging the system board assembly, make sure to follow the instructions in Internal cable routing when disconnecting cables from the system board assembly.
  2. Remove the 1FH bracket or 3FH riser cage.
    • 1FH bracket
Figure 1. Removing the 1FH bracket

      1. Remove the screws that secure the bracket.

      2. Lift the bracket out of the chassis.

    • 3FH riser cage
Figure 2. Removing the 3FH riser cage

      1. Loosen the screw that secures the riser cage.

      2. Grasp the riser cage by its edges and carefully lift it out of the chassis.

  3. Disengage the hoses and liquid detection sensor module from the holder.
Figure 3. Disengaging the hoses and liquid detection sensor module

  4. Remove the Processor Neptune Core Module from the processor board.
Figure 4. Removing the Processor Neptune Core Module

    1. Fully loosen the Torx T30 nuts on the cold plate assembly.
    2. Rotate the anti-tilt wire bails inward.
    3. Carefully lift the module from the processor sockets. If the module cannot be fully lifted out of the socket, further loosen the Torx T30 nuts and try lifting the module again.
  5. Separate the processor from the Processor Neptune Core Module. See Separate the processor from carrier and heat sink.
  6. If there is any old thermal grease on the processors and the cold plates, gently clean the top of the processors and the cold plates with an alcohol cleaning pad.
  7. Remove the hose holder.
Figure 5. Removing the hose holder

    1. Remove the screws that lock the holder to the system board assembly.
    2. Lift the hose holder out of the chassis.
