Install a PCIe riser card
Follow instructions in this section to install a PCIe riser card.
About this task
Attention
- Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.
- Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
Note
- If your are installing a riser card to the 7mm/x16 PCIe G4 Riser 1 FHHL, see Install three-slot riser card to riser with 7mm drive cage.
- The PCIe riser might look different from the illustrations in this topic.
Procedure
After you finish
- Reinstall the 7mm drive cage and the 7mm drives if necessary. See Install the 7mm drive cage and Install a 7mm drive.
- Reinstall the serial port module if necessary. See Install the serial port module.
- Reinstall the PCIe adapters or GPU adapters. See Install a PCIe adapter or Install a GPU adapter.
- Reinstall the PCIe riser. See Install a PCIe riser.
- Reconnect the required cables.
- Complete the parts replacement. See Complete the parts replacement.

Procedure
Install the PCIe riser card.
After you finish
- Reinstall the 7mm drive cage and 7mm drives. See Install the 7mm drive cage and Install a 7mm drive.
- Reinstall the PCIe adapters. See Install a PCIe adapter.
- Reinstall the PCIe riser. See Install a PCIe riser.
- Reconnect the required cables.
- Complete the parts replacement. See Complete the parts replacement.

Attach the white space portion of the label near the straight-end of the PCIe riser cable.
Wrap the label around the cable and attach it onto the white space portion.

Connect the cables(s) to the PCIe riser card.
Align the PCIe retainer with the screw holes on the PCIe riser card.
Fasten the three screws to secure the PCIe retainer to the PCIe riser card.
