Install the sideband card

Follow the instructions in this section to install the sideband card.

About this task

Attention

  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices, disconnect the power cords from the primary chassis, then disconnect the power cords from the secondary chassis. See Power off the server.

  • Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.

  • If the server is installed in a rack, remove the server from the rack. See Remove the server from rails.

Firmware and driver download: You might need to update the firmware or driver after replacing a component.

Procedure

  1. If the left PCIe filler is installed, remove it.

  2. Install the sideband card.

    Installing sideband card
    1. Make sure the latch on the PCIe slot is in the unlocked position.
    2. Align the sideband card with the connector on the PCIe slot; then, carefully press the sideband card straight into the slot until it is securely seated and its bracket also is secured.
    3. Secure the sideband card with a screw.
  3. Install the left PCIe filler.

After you finish

  1. Reinstall the front top cover. See Install the front top cover.

  2. Complete the parts replacement. See Complete the parts replacement.
