Remove the power distribution board

Follow the instructions in this section to remove the power distribution board.

The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.

Never remove the cover on a power supply or any part that has this label attached. Hazardous voltage, current, and energy levels are present inside any component that has this label attached. There are no serviceable parts inside these components. If you suspect a problem with one of these parts, contact a service technician.

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices, disconnect the power cords from the primary chassis, then disconnect the power cords from the secondary chassis. See Power off the server.

  • Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.

  • If the server is installed in a rack, remove the server from the rack. See Remove the server from rails.

Procedure

  1. Make preparation for the task.
    1. Gently pull and disengage every installed power supply unit. See Remove a hot-swap power supply unit.
    2. Remove the front top cover. See Remove the front top cover.
    3. Remove both power interposer boards. See Remove the power interposer board.
    4. Remove the fan cage. See Remove the fan cage.
  2. Disconnect the power cables from the power distribution board.

  3. Disengage the power distribution board.

    1. Loosen the two thumbscrews. Use a screwdriver if needed.
    2. Grasp the thumbscrews and slide the power distribution board towards the rear of the chassis to disengage it from the lower processor board (MB).
  4. Remove the power distribution board.

    1. Lift the connector end of the power distribution board.
    2. Remove the power distribution board from the chassis.

After you finish

  1. Install a replacement unit. See Install the power distribution board.

  2. If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.

  3. If you plan to recycle the component.
    1. Remove eleven screws, and separate the power distribution board from the bracket.

    2. Recycle the component in compliance with local regulations.
