Remove the rails from the rack

Follow the instructions in this section to remove the rails from the rack.

Procedure

  1. Remove the server from rails. See Remove the server from rails.
  2. Before removing the rails from the rack, there are two options to retract the rails into fully retracted state.
    Option 1
    • Lift the release spring.
    • Retract the intermediate rail to fully retracted state.
    • Repeat the previous steps to the other rail.
    Option 2
    • Insert the inner rail into the intermediate rail until it stops.
    • Lift the lock latches up.
    Attention
    There are two pairs of lock latches on the rails. Lift the second pair up again.
    • Push the inner rail in to fully retracted state.
    • Repeat the previous steps to the other rail.
  3. Remove the rails from the rack.
    Front

    		Rear

    • Rotate and hold the latch on the front end.
    • Push the rail forward and remove the rail from the front mounting flanges.
    • Pull the hook latch up to disengage the rear end of the rail.
    • Remove the rail from the rear mounting flanges.

After you finish

  1. Install a replacement unit. See the instructions in Rail Installation Guide that comes with the rail kit.

  2. If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
