Hard disk drive problems
Follow this procedure to resolve issues related to the hard disk drives.
Server cannot recognize a drive
Complete the following steps until the problem is solved.
Check the system event log and resolve any related problems. To view the system event log, go to Setup Utility and select .
Make sure that:
The drive is supported by the server (see Lenovo ServerProven website).
The drive is properly installed with signal and power cables properly connected.
Make sure the drive is enabled. Go to Setup Utility and select to see if the drive in question is enabled. If not, enable it.
If the server comes with LXPM Lite, go to
to perform diagnostics on the drives. Replace the drive that is displayed as faulty. Otherwise, skip to the next step.Remove the drives until the system reaches minimal drive requirement; then, add one drive and restart the server, and repeat the step if the problem does not recur. If the problem occurs after addition of a drive, replace it.
Multiple hard drives fail
Complete the following steps until the problem is solved.
Check the system event log and resolve any related problems. To view the system event log, go to Setup Utility and select .
If the server comes with Lenovo XClarity Provisioning Manager, go to to perform diagnostics on the drives. Replace the drive that is displayed as faulty. Otherwise, skip to the next step.
Remove the drives until the system reaches minimal drive requirement; then, add one drive and reboot the server, and repeat the step if the problem does not recur. If the problem occurs after addition of a drive, replace it.
A replacement drive does not rebuild
Complete the following steps until the problem is solved.
Check the system event log and resolve any related problems. To view the system event log, go to Setup Utility and select .
If the server comes with Lenovo XClarity Provisioning Manager, go to . Look for related errors and solve them. Otherwise, skip to the next step.
Review the document that came with the RAID adapter to make sure RAID is set properly.
Suspected RAID volume failure
If the virtual driver application is installed in a bootable Operating System drive, the system, unable to boot, stays in POST screen with message of Error 1962: No Operating system found. Boot sequence will automatically resume.
Otherwise, the drive is missing from disk management options in the operating system.
Complete the following steps until the problem is solved.
Reboot the system, press F1 to go to Setup Utility, and select Devices. See if the option of AVAGO MRAID <RAID xxx-xx> Configuration Utility - xx.xx.xx.xx exists in this tab.
If the option is missing, select C then Y. After that, AVAGO MRAID Configuration Utility - xx.xx.xx.xx should appear in Devices tab. If it is
, and type- If it is possible to replace the faulty drive immediately:
Go to
to identify the faulty drive.Power off the system, and replace the drive (see Drive replacement).
Power on the system. The virtual driver will start rebuilding immediately.
If it requires Lenovo support to possible to replace:Go to Apply Changes.
, and selectReboot the system. The virtual driver will be able to continue working.
Call Lenovo support to replace the drive.
