Working with application instances

In ThinkAgile CP, an application instance refers to one or more virtual machines (VMs) grouped together to provide a specific set of software capabilities for an end user. For example, an application instance might be a simple VM running Windows 10; and another application instance might be a VM running CentOS 7 with Docker.

Supported Operating Systems​

ThinkAgile CP currently supports application instances running the following Operating Systems:

  • Red Hat (CentOS/RHEL/Scientific Linux) 6/7/8 (64-bit)

    Note
    When manually installing Red Hat, version 8, the networking is not enabled by default. To enable networking, see the following topic:

  • Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Desktop/Server (64-bit)

  • Microsoft Windows 7/8/8.1/10 (32-bit/64-bit)

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008R2/2012/2012R2/2016 (64-bit)

  • FreeBSD 10.3

  • Create and deploy applications
    In the ThinkAgile CP Cloud Controller, infrastructure admin users and VDC manager users can create an application instance.
  • Manage application instances
    VDC manager users can manage the application instances in the virtual datacenters to which they have access. Infrastructure admin users can manage all application instances.
  • Manage instance modes and guest agents
    Infrastructure admin users and VDC manager users can manage the mode selected for an application instance and whether or not to install guest agent tools for an instance.
  • Clone and attach a vDisk
    Infrastructure admin users and VDC manager users can clone a vDisk from local or quick DR backup, and attach the cloned vDisk to an application instance in the same virtual datacenter and storage pool as the backup. A vDisk can be cloned and attached as many times as needed.
  • View instances
    You can view details about an instance, such as the current state, metrics, and backups.
  • Manage application domains
    Infrastructure admin users can set up and manage application domains.
  • Application templates
    An application template is a gold master, sys-prepped image of an application instance. Templates facilitate the easy and instantaneous creation of application instances, and a single template can be used to create any number of instances.
  • Use the Lenovo Cloud Marketplace
    The Lenovo Cloud Marketplace contains a collection of application instance templates, all of which are free to download. All users can view the applications that are in the marketplace, but you must be logged in as an infrastructure admin user or a VDC manager user to download the template.
