SFP failed

A Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) transceiver on the controller shelf has failed, is inserted incorrectly, or the protocol type and/or maximum transmission speed do not match what is supported.

Important
  • If there is only one SFP failure, the storage array is still operational.

  • Even though the storage array is still operational, a level of path redundancy has been lost. An additional SFP failure could result in the failure of the affected shelves.

  • If the Problems area is reporting any other problems, fix those first before attempting to fix this problem.

  • You can replace the SFP while the storage array is in use.

CAUTION
Electrostatic discharge can damage sensitive components

Always use proper anti-static protection when handling components. Touching components without using a grounding wrist strap may damage equipment.

Recovery Steps

  1. Check your documentation to ensure you are using a recommended cabling configuration.

    • If you are using a recommended cabling configuration, go to step 2.

    • If you are NOT using a recommended cabling configuration, remove the SFP and insert it into the port recommended by your documentation. Then, go to step 4.

  2. Check to see if the SFP's capabilities match the host-side protocol and/or maximum transmit speed supported by your controller shelf.

    • If yes, go to step 3.

    • If no, remove the SFP and replace it with one that supports the protocol and/or speed. Then, go to step 4.

  3. Replace the failed SFP identified in the Details area.

  4. Select Recheck to ensure the problem has been resolved.
