Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.
Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.
Follow the additional instructions in any documentation that comes with the GPU adapter.
Depending on the type, the GPU adapter might look slightly different from the illustrations in this section.
Procedure
Make sure you have a suction cup available to properly remove the component.
- Make preparation for the task.
- If the server is installed in a rack, slide the server out on its rack slide rails to gain access to the top cover, or remove the server from the rack. See Remove the server from the rack.
- Remove the top cover. See Remove the top cover.
- Remove the riser assembly. See Remove a front riser assembly.
- Remove the side support bracket from the riser cage.

Loosen the two screws at the rear of riser cage.
Loosen the two screws at the front of riser cage.
Remove the side support bracket from the riser cage.
- Remove the GPU adapter link bridge from the GPU adapers with a suction cup.
Press the suction cup against the GPU adapter link bridge until it adheres to the GPU adapter link bridge.Figure 2. GPU adapter link bridge removal
Pull up the suction cup and remove the GPU adapter link bridge together with the suction cup from the GPU adapters.Figure 3. GPU adapter link bridge removal
- Repeat 3 to the other GPU adapter link bridges until all GPU adapter link bridges are removed from the GPU adapters.
After you finish
If you are not installing a replacement unit, install link connector covers onto the GPU adapters.
