Removing the thermal solution fan kit

Use this information to remove the thermal solution fan kit

To remove the thermal solution fan kit on the 4U server model with non-hot-swap power supplies, complete the following steps. For 5U server models with hot-swap power supplies, please see the next sub-section.

1. Read the safety information in Safety and Installation guidelines.
2. Turn off the server and all attached devices; then, disconnect all power cords and external cables.
3. Carefully turn the server on its side so that it is lying flat, with the cover facing up.
   Attention

   Do not allow the server to fall over.
4. Remove the side cover (see Removing the side cover).
5. Remove the air baffle (see Removing the air baffle).
6. Remove the thermal solution fan kit:

   1. Disconnect the fan cable from the system board (see System-board internal connectors).
   2. While you support the system fan with one hand, pull the rubber grommet away from the chassis to make it thinner; then, pull the fan toward the front of the server to remove the rubber grommet through the hole on the chassis. Repeat this step till all the remaining rubber grommets are removed.
   3. Lift the system fan up and out of the chassis.
7. If you are instructed to return the thermal solution fan kit, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.

To remove the thermal solution fan kit on the 5U server model with hot-swap power supplies, complete the following steps. For 4U server models with non-hot-swap power supplies, please see the above sub-section.

1. Read the safety information in Safety and Installation guidelines.
2. Turn off the server and all attached devices; then, disconnect all power cords and external cables.
3. Unlock and remove the side cover (see Removing the side cover).
4. Carefully turn the server on its side so that it is lying flat, with the cover facing up.
   Attention

   Do not allow the server to fall over.
5. Remove the thermal solution fan kit:

   1. Disconnect the fan cable from the system board (see System-board internal connectors).
   2. Grasp the system fan by the blue point and pull up to lift it out of the chassis.
6. If you are instructed to return the thermal solution fan kit, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
