Removing the USB embedded hypervisor flash device

Use this information to remove the USB embedded hypervisor flash device.

To remove the USB hypervisor key on 4U server models with non-hot-swap power supplies, complete the following steps. For the 5U server model with hot-swap power supplies, please see the next sub-section.

  1. Read the safety information in Safety and Installation guidelines.
  2. Turn off the server and all peripheral devices; then, disconnect the power cords and all external cables.
  3. Carefully turn the server on its side so that it is lying flat, with the cover facing up.
    Attention
    Do not allow the server to fall over.
  4. Remove the side cover (see Removing the side cover).
  5. Remove the air baffle (see Removing the air baffle).
  6. Locate the USB embedded hypervisor flash device connector on the system board.

  7. Slide the lockbar on the flash device connector to the unlocked position and pull the USB flash device out of the connector.

  8. If you are instructed to return the hypervisor memory key, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
    Note
    You must configure the server not to look for the hypervisor USB drive. See Configuring the server for information about disabling hypervisor support.

To remove the system board on the 5U server model with hot-swap power supplies, complete the following steps. For 4U server models with non-hot-swap power supplies, please see the above sub-section.

  1. Read the safety information in Safety and Installation guidelines.
  2. Turn off the server and all attached devices; then, disconnect all power cords and external cables.
  3. Unlock and remove the side cover (see Removing the side cover).
  4. Carefully turn the server on its side so that it is lying flat, with the system board facing up.
    Attention
    Do not allow the server to fall over.
  5. Rotate the rear adapter-retention bracket to the open (unlocked) position.
  6. Locate the USB embedded hypervisor flash device connector on the system board.

  7. Slide the lockbar on the flash device connector to the unlocked position and pull the USB flash device out of the connector.
