Use this information to install the 2.5-inch hard disk drive backplane.
Read the safety information in Safety and Installation guidelines.
If you are replacing a server component in the server, you need to turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cords and all external cables.
To install a 2.5-inch hard disk drive backplane, complete the following steps.
- Unlock and remove the left-side cover (see Removing the left-side cover).
- Open the bezel by pressing the button on the left edge of the bezel, and rotate the left side of the bezel away from the server.
Figure 1. Open bezel - Remove the air baffle (see Removing the air baffle).
- Remove the fan cage assembly (see Removing the fan cage assembly).
- Touch the static-protective package that contains the hard disk drive backplane to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove the backplane from the package.
- Position the 2.5-inch hard disk drive backplane in the drive-cage retention tabs; then, rotate the top of the backplane toward the locator pins until the latches click into place.
Figure 2. Position the 2.5-inch HDD backplane - Connect the power, signal, and configuration cables to the 2.5-inch hard disk drive backplane (see Hard disk drive backplane connectors and Internal cable routing and connectors).
- If you are replacing another 2.5-inch hard disk drive backplane, repeat steps 5 to 7 to install the additional backplane.
- Install the 2.5-inch hot-swap hard disk drives (see Installing a 2.5-inch hot-swap hard disk drive).
- Close the bezel.
- Install the fan cage assembly (see Installing the fan cage assembly).
- Install the air baffle (see Installing the air baffle).
