Installing the USB cable and light path diagnostics assembly

Use the information to install the USB cable and light path diagnostics assembly.

Read the safety information in Safety and Installation guidelines.

If you are replacing a server component in the server, you need to turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cords and all external cables.

To install the USB cable and light path diagnostics assembly, complete the following steps.
  1. Carefully lay the server down on its side.
  2. Unlock and remove the left-side cover (see Removing the left-side cover).
  3. Remove the air baffle (see Removing the air baffle).
  4. Remove the fan cage assembly (see Removing the fan cage assembly).
  5. Stand the server back up in its vertical position.
  6. Touch the static-protective package that contains the USB cable and light path diagnostics assembly to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove the assembly from the package.
  7. Install the light path diagnostics assembly (see Installing the light path diagnostics assembly).
  8. Install the USB cable assembly (see Installing the USB cable assembly).
  9. Position the top of the USB cable and light path diagnostics assembly mounting bracket into the opening and rotate the bottom of the bracket toward the server until it clicks into place.

  10. Connect the USB and light path diagnostics cable to the system board (see System-board internal connectors and Internal cable routing and connectors).
  11. Install the fan cage assembly (see Installing the fan cage assembly).
  12. Install the air baffle (see Installing the air baffle).
  13. Install the hot-swap power supply or power supplies (see Installing a hot-swap power supply).
  14. Install the bezel (see Installing the bezel).
  15. Install and lock the left-side cover (see Installing the left-side cover).

If you have replaced a server component or installed an optional device in the server, you need to reconnect the power cords and all external cables, and turn on the server and peripheral devices.
