Install an expansion kit fan module

Follow instructions in this section to install a fan module.

Note
This section only applies to the expansion kit that is installed with an Ethernet adapter.

disconnect all power
CAUTION
The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.
Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.

Procedure

  1. Connect the fan power cable to the PCIe riser card. Make sure to connect fan power cable 5 to the connector first. See Internal cable routing.
  2. Install the fan module.
    1. Align the fan module with the screw holes on the expansion kit.
    2. Tighten the three screws to secure the fan module to the expansion kit.

After you finish

  1. Install the expansion top cover. See Install the expansion top cover.
  2. Install the expansion kit to the node. See Install the expansion kit.
  3. Complete the parts replacement. See Complete the parts replacement.
