Remove the internal drive backplane

Follow instructions in this section to remove the internal drive backplane.

CAUTION

The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.

Attention

• Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

• If applicable, remove the security bezel. See Remove the security bezel.

• Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

• If the server is installed in a rack, remove the server from the rack. See Remove the server from the rack.

Note

Depending on the configuration, the drive backplane might look slightly different from the illustration in this section.

Procedure

1. Make preparation for this task.
   1. Remove the top cover. See Remove the top cover.
   2. Remove all the internal drives. See Remove an internal drive.
   3. Pinch the handles and press the internal drive cage down.
2. If applicable, disengage the following cables from the cable clip of the processor air baffle.
   1. The blue signal cable of PCIe riser 2
   2. Power cable of internal drive backplane
   3. Signal cable of internal drive backplane

3. Pinch the blue touch points on the backplane bracket as shown; then, lift the backplane to remove it.

4. Disconnect the cables from the drive backplane.
5. If necessary, loosen the two screws to separate the drive backplane from the backplane bracket.
