Remove a PCIe adapter

Follow the instructions in this section to remove a PCIe adapter.

disconnect all power
CAUTION
The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.

Note
Identify the parts of the PCIe riser assembly supporting PCIe adapters with different length and height.
 Low-profile PCIe adapterFull-length PCIe adapter
Side support bracket (for all configurations)
Low-profile filler√ (one for each slot) 
Extender 

Procedure

  1. Make preparation for this task.
    1. Remove the top cover. See Remove the top cover.
    2. Remove PCIe riser 1 or PCIe riser 2. See Remove the PCIe riser assembly.
  2. Remove the side support bracket.
    1. Loosen the screw that secures the bracket.
    2. Slightly push the bracket outward to disengage it; then, lift it from the riser assembly.

  3. If necessary, remove the low-profile fillers.
    1. Press the tab of the filler to disengage it from the side support bracket. Use a pointed tool if necessary.
      Note
      If necessary, use firm and solid pointed tool. Do not use pencils or other fragile tools.
    2. Remove the filler from the side support bracket.

  4. Open the retainer, and remove the screw that secures the adapter if applicable.

  5. Carefully slide the adapter out of the slot.
    Note
    If no replacement adapter is to be installed in the slot, install the slot filler.

  6. If no full-length adapter is to be installed in the riser assembly, remove the extender.
    1. Loosen the two screws that secure the extender.
    2. Slightly push the extender outward to disengage it; then, remove it from the riser assembly.

After this task is completed

  • If necessary, proceed to remove the PCIe riser card. See Remove the PCIe riser card.

  • Install a replacement unit. See Install a PCIe adapter.
