Install an E3.S CMM cage and backplane

Follow the instructions in this section to install an E3.S CMM cage and backplane.

About this task

Attention

  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

  • Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.

Procedure

  1. Connect the signal cables to the backplane.
  2. Install the backplane to the E3.S 2T cage.

    1. Install the backplane to the cage.
    2. Fasten four screws to secure the backplane.
  3. Connect the power cable to the backplane.
  4. Install the E3.S 2T cage.

    1. Make sure that the latch is in the open position.
    2. Slide the cage into the chassis until the guide pin on the chassis is seated into place.
    3. Press the latch down to secure the cage.
  5. Connect the power and signal cables to the system board assembly. See Internal cable routing.

After you finish

  1. Reinstall the air baffle. See Install the air baffle.

  2. Reinstall the top cover. See Install the top cover

  3. Reinstall the CMM or CMM fillers and E3.S bezel. See Install an E3.S non-hot-swap CMM.

  4. Complete the parts replacement. See Complete the parts replacement.
