Remove the server from the rack (friction rails)

Follow instructions in this section to remove the server from the rack.

CAUTION
Do not place any object on top of a rack-mounted device unless that rack-mounted device is intended for use as a shelf.
CAUTION
  • Potential stability hazards exist. The rack might tip over and cause serious personal injury.

  • Before extending the rack to the installation position, read the Installation Guidelines. Do not put any load on the slide-rail mounted equipment in the installation position. Do not leave the slide-rail mounted equipment in the installation position.

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

  • Keep static-sensitive parts in their static-protective packages until installation to prevent exposure to static electricity. Handle the parts with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding systems. Place the parts on a static-protective surface.

CAUTION
Make sure to have three people operate the server removal procedures to prevent injury.

Procedure

  1. Loosen the two screws located on the rack latches to disengage it from the rack.

    Disengage server from the rack

    1. Flip down the covers on the rack latches.
    2. Loosen the screws that secure the server.
  2. Slide the server all the way out until it stops and remove it from the outer rails.
    CAUTION
    Make sure three people are lifting the sever by holding the 1 lift points.

    Pulling out the server

    1. Slide the server out until the release latches are accessible.
    2. Press the release latches.
    3. With three people, slide the server out to remove it from the outer rails. Place the server on a flat and sturdy surface.
  3. Remove the inner rails from the server.

    1. Flip the touch point to unlock the inner rail.
    2. Push the inner rail backwards until the T-pins on the server disengaged from the inner rail.
  4. Repeat the previous step to the other rail.

Carefully lay the server on a flat, static-protective surface.
