Install the M.2 boot adapter

Follow the instructions in this section to install the M.2 boot adapter.

About this task

Attention

  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices, disconnect the power cords from the primary chassis, then disconnect the power cords from the secondary chassis. See Power off the server.

  • Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.

Firmware and driver download: You might need to update the firmware or driver after replacing a component.

Procedure

  1. If necessary, connect the M.2 boot adapter cables to the lower processor board (MB).
  2. Install M.2 boot adapter.

    1. Lower the M.2 boot adapter into the upper processor board (CPU BD) air baffle; then, slide the M.2 boot adapter towards the rear of the chassis until it is seated in place.
    2. Fasten the screw that secures the end of the M.2 boot adapter to the upper processor board (CPU BD) air baffle.
    3. Fasten the screw that secures the middle of the M.2 boot adapter to the upper processor board (CPU BD) air baffle.
  3. Connect the cables to the M.2 boot adapter.

    1. Tilt the connector at an angle of 20 degrees or lower, and insert it until its bottom surface reaches the ramp.
    2. Press the connector down flat.
    3. Tighten the screw on the signal cable.
    4. Connect the power cable.

After you finish

  1. Reinstall the M.2 drives to the M.2 boot adapter. See Install an M.2 drive.

  2. Reinstall the front top cover. See Install the front top cover.

  3. Complete the parts replacement. See Complete the parts replacement.
