Disassemble the server for chassis recycle

Follow the instructions in this section to disassemble the server before recycling the chassis.

About this task

Attention
  • Read the Installation guidelines to ensure that you work safely.

  • Turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cords and all external cables (see Power off the server).

  • Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.

  • If the server is in a rack, remove it from the rack.

  • Lay the server on its side for easier operation.

  1. Remove the front door (see Remove the front door).
  2. Remove all the installed drives and fillers. See Remove a hot-swap drive or Remove a simple-swap drive.
  3. Remove the server cover (see Remove the server cover).
  4. Remove the front bezel (see Remove the front bezel).
  5. Remove the front panel board assembly. See Remove the front panel board assembly.
  6. Remove the optical drives and the tape drive. See Remove an optical drive or Remove a tape drive.
  7. Remove all the installed power supplies. See Remove a hot-swap power supply or Remove the fixed power supply.
  8. Remove all the M.2 drives from the M.2 boot adapter. See Remove an M.2 drive
  9. Remove the M.2 boot adapter. See Remove the M.2 boot adapter.
  10. Remove the RAID flash power module. See Remove a RAID flash power module.
  11. Remove all the installed PCIe adapters. See Remove a PCIe adapter.
  12. Remove the front and rear system fans. See Remove the front system fan and Remove the rear system fan.
  13. Remove all the drive backplanes or backplates. See Remove the 3.5-inch/2.5-inch hot-swap drive backplane, or Remove the 3.5-inch simple-swap drive backplate.
  14. Remove the intrusion switch. See Remove the intrusion switch.
  15. Remove the power distribution board. See Remove the power distribution board of the hot-swap power supply or Remove the power distribution board of the fixed power supply.
  16. Remove the memory modules that are installed on the system board. See Remove a memory module.
  17. Remove the heat sink and fan module. See Remove the heat sink and fan module.
  18. Remove the processor. See Remove the processor.
  19. Remove the system board. See Remove the system board.

After disassembling the server, recycle the unit in compliance with local regulations.
