Replacing the ServeRAID N2215 SAS/SATA Host Bus Adapter

Use this information to replace the ServeRAID N2215 SAS/SATA Host Bus Adapter.

Note
For additional information and notes about installing adapters, see Installing an adapter.
You can purchase the optional ServeRAID N2215 SAS/SATA Host Bus Adapter. This adapter provides no RAID support; however, it helps to provide optimized performance for applications that do not need RAID support. See Supported adapters and Table 1 for more information. For configuration information, see the ServeRAID documentation at Lenovo Data Center Support.
Attention
Some cluster solutions require specific code levels or coordinated code updates. If the device is part of a cluster solution, verify that the latest level of code is supported for the cluster solution before you update the code.

To install the adapter, complete the following steps:

Note
If possible, backup or record your RAID configuration information before replacing the adapter. See the documentation for your RAID adapter for information and instructions. Documentation for ServeRAID adapters can be downloaded from Lenovo Data Center Support.
  1. Read the safety information and installation guidelines, see Safety and Installation guidelines.
  2. Touch the static-protective package that contains the new ServeRAID N2215 Host Bus Adapter to any unpainted surface on the outside of the server; then, grasp the adapter by the top edge or upper corners of the adapter and remove it from the package.
  3. Install the adapter on the PCIe riser-card assembly.
    1. Align the adapter so that the keys align correctly with the connector on the riser-card assembly.
    2. Insert the adapter into the connector on the riser-card until it is firmly seated.
      Attention
Make sure that the adapter is seated correctly. Incomplete insertion might cause damage to the system board, the adapter, and the PCIe riser-card assembly.
    3. Close the PCIe retention latch.
    4. Reinstall the riser-card assembly onto the system board.
    5. Reconnect the cables to the adapter.
