Remove the Ethernet port assembly

Follow the instructions in this section to remove the Ethernet port assembly.

About this task

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices, disconnect the power cords from the primary chassis, then disconnect the power cords from the secondary chassis. See Power off the server.

  • Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.

Procedure

  1. Make preparation for the task.
    1. Remove the front top cover. See Remove the front top cover.
    2. Remove the rear top cover. See Remove the rear top cover.
    3. If you are replacing the Ethernet port assembly cable, remove the upper processor board (CPU BD) air baffle and upper processor board (CPU BD). See Remove the upper processor board (CPU BD) air baffle and Remove the upper processor board (CPU BD).
  2. Remove the screw that secures the Ethernet port assembly; then, grasp the Ethernet port assembly and carefully pull it out of the chassis.

  3. Disconnect the cable from the Ethernet port assembly and interposer board. See Ethernet port assembly cable routing.
  4. If necessary, remove the two screws and separate the Ethernet port card from the bracket.

After you finish

  1. Install a replacement unit. See Install the Ethernet port assembly.

  2. If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
