Manage quick DR backups

ThinkAgile CP supports quick disaster recovery (DR) backups. Quick DR backups can be saved to different storage pools.

In the ThinkAgile CP Cloud Controller, you need to allocate two or more storage pools to a virtual datacenter to make disaster recovery available for the application instances in that virtual datacenter. You will then be able to enable disaster recovery for individual application instances as needed.

Note

A sophisticated capability called Clone and Attach is also provided, which allows you to clone a vDisk or a backup vDisk from one VM and attach it to the same or a second VM. The Clone and Attach function is fast and does not significantly impact storage consumption. For example, if you are running an SQL database in a VM, you can use this feature to clone and attach the database to a second VM where monthly or quarterly reporting can be run, without impacting user performance against the database.

  Disaster recovery requires two storage pools to be connected to your virtual datacenter.
• Enable quick DR backups for an instance
  When you enable quick DR backups for an instance, local backups (either automatic or manual) are copied to the storage pool that you specify. A local backup can be copied to multiple storage pools.
• Disable quick DR backups for an instance
  Disabling quick DR backups does not remove any quick DR backups that have been created previously. After disabling quick DR backups, you can remove them individually or choose to remove all quick DR backups.
• Restore or start an instance from a quick DR backup
  To restore an instance from a quick DR backup, you actually create a new instance from the quick DR backup. The state of the new instance is the same state of the original instance when the quick DR backup was taken. You cannot directly restore an instance from a quick DR backup because the instance and the backup are in different storage pools.
• Delete a quick DR backup for an instance
  Before you can delete a quick DR backup, you must disable quick DR backups.
• Delete all quick DR backups for an instance
  You can delete all quick DR backups for an application instance.
