Install the crossbar

Follow the instructions in this section to install the crossbar.

Attention

• Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

• Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

• Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.

Note

The illustrations show how to install a crossbar into a chassis with half-length PCIe risers. The installation procedure is similar for full-length PCIe risers.

Procedure

1. Install the crossbar.

   1. Align the rear guide pins on the crossbar and install it into the openings on the sides of the chassis.
   2. Rotate the crossbar towards the front of the server to secure it in place.
2. Secure PCIe riser 1 to the crossbar.

   1. Slightly lift the PCIe riser.
   2. Close the kickstand(s).
   3. Push the PCIe riser into the chassis until it is fully seated.
3. Repeat 2 to secure the other two PCIe risers.
4. Connect all external cables to the PCIe adapters.
