Adjust the retainer on an M.2 boot adapter

Follow the instructions in this section to adjust the retainers on an M.2 boot adapter.

CAUTION
The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.

  • Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.

Note
The M.2 boot adapter might look different from the illustrations in this section, but the adjustment method is the same.

Procedure

  1. Make preparations for this task.
    1. Locate the correct keyhole for the retainer according to the size of the M.2 drive.
  2. Adjust a retainer on the M.2 boot adapter.
    1. Pinch both sides of the retainer.
    2. Slide the retainer towards the wider opening of the keyhole.
    3. Remove the retainer out of the keyhole.
    4. Insert the retainer into the keyhole to be installed.
    5. Pinch both sides of the retainer.
    6. Slide the retainer towards the narrower opening of the keyhole until it is seated in place.
