Remove the OCP cage

Follow the instructions in this section to remove the OCP cage.

About this task

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices, disconnect the power cords from the primary chassis, then disconnect the power cords from the secondary chassis. See Power off the server.

  • Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.

Procedure

  1. Make preparation for the task.
    1. Remove the OCP module. See Remove the OCP module.
    2. Remove the front top cover. See Remove the front top cover.
    3. Remove the rear top cover. See Remove the rear top cover.
    4. If you are replacing the OCP cable, remove the upper processor board (CPU BD) air baffle and upper processor board (CPU BD). See Remove the upper processor board (CPU BD) air baffle and Remove the upper processor board (CPU BD).
  2. Remove the OCP module cage.

    1. Loosen the thumbscrew on the OCP module cage. Use a screwdriver if needed.
    2. Remove the screw that secures the OCP module cage.
    3. Grasp the OCP module cage and carefully pull it out of the chassis.
  3. If necessary, remove two screws to remove the OCP cable.

  4. If necessary, disconnect the OCP cables from the lower processor board (MB) and interposer board. See OCP cable routing.

After you finish

  1. Install a replacement unit. See Install the OCP cage.

  2. If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
