Removing a simple-swap hard disk drive

This procedure applies only to 4U server models with non-hot-swap power supplies.

Attention
Simple-swap hard disk drives are not hot-swappable. Disconnect all power from the server before you remove or install a simple-swap hard disk drive.

To remove a simple-swap SATA hard disk drive on 4U server models that have non-hot-swap power supplies, complete the following steps.

  1. Read the safety information in Safety and Installation guidelines.
  2. Turn off the server and all attached devices; then, disconnect all power cords and external cables.
  3. Remove the bezel (see Removing the bezel).
  4. Slide the blue release latch to the right with one finger (to release the drive) while using another finger to grasp the black drive handle and pull the hard disk drive out of the drive bay.

  5. If you are instructed to return the drive assembly, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
