Remove the M.2 boot adapter

Follow instructions in this section to remove the M.2 boot adapter.

About this task

To avoid potential danger, read and follow the following safety statements.
  • S002
    disconnect all power
    CAUTION
    The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the power source.
Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safety.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.

  • If the server is in a rack, remove it from the rack.

  • Remove any locking device that secures the server cover, such as a Kensington lock or a padlock.

Procedure

  1. Make preparations for this task.
    1. Remove the server cover. See Remove the server cover.
    2. Disconnect the M.2 boot adapter cables from the system board.
    3. Remove the PCIe adapter that secures the M.2 boot adapter. See Remove the PCIe adapter.
    4. Remove all the M.2 drives from the M.2 boot adapter. See Remove an M.2 drive.
  2. Disconnect the cables from the M.2 boot adapter.

    1. Unhook the wire bail on the cable from the connector.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the M.2 boot adapter.
  3. Remove the M.2 boot adapter.
    1. Remove the screw that secures the M.2 boot adapter to the PCIe adapter.
    2. Loosen the captive screw on the M.2 boot adapter.
    3. Slightly slide the M.2 boot adapter as illustrated and carefully separate it from the PCIe adapter.

After you finish

  1. Install another M.2 boot adapter if necessary, see Install the M.2 boot adapter. Otherwise, install a bracket to cover the vacancy on the chassis, and close the retainer.

  2. If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
