Thermal rules

This topic provides thermal rules for the server.

Note
  • Install the DIMM dummy for the empty DIMM slot.

  • When the server is installed with rear M.2 NVMe/SATA drive or front M.2 NVMe drive assembly, users must install an M.2 drive heat sink.

  • If one processor is installed, at least three fan-packs should be installed.

  • Users can replace the standard fans with high-performance or ultra fans for the server models not installing with Compute Complex Neptune Core Module.

  • Users can replace the standard heat sinks with high-performance heat sinks for all configurations.

Server models with front drive bays only (standard configuration)

This section provides thermal information for server models with front drive bays only.

Transceivers (AOC ≥ 100 GbE):
  • 100GBase-SR4 QSFP28 Transceiver

  • The ambient temperature must be limited to 30°C or lower and standard fan-packs must be installed.

  • The ambient temperature must be limited to 35°C or lower and high-performance fan-packs must be installed.

Transceivers (AOC ≥ 100 GbE):
  • Mellanox HDR IB Optical QSFP56 Cable (3m/5m/10m/15m/20m)

  • Mellanox HDR IB to 2x HDR100 Splitter Optical QSFP56 Cable (3m/5m/10m/15m/20m)

  • ThinkSystem NDR OSFP400 IB Multi Mode Solo-Transceiver

  • If TruDDR5 8800MHz 64 GB (2Rx4) MRDIMM or TruDDR5 6400MHz 256 GB (4Rx4) 3DS RDIMM is installed:
    • The ambient temperature must be limited to 25°C or lower and high-performance fan-packs must be installed.

    • The ambient temperature must be limited to 30°C or lower and ultra fan-packs must be installed.

  • If TruDDR5 8800MHz 64 GB (2Rx4) MRDIMM or TruDDR5 6400MHz 256 GB (4Rx4) 3DS RDIMM is not installed:

    • The ambient temperature must be limited to 30°C or lower and high-performance fan-packs must be installed.

Transceivers (AOC ≥ 100 GbE):
  • ThinkSystem NVIDIA ConnectX-8 8240 400GbE / 400Gb/s IB QSFP112 2-port PCIe Gen6 x16 (Generic FW)

  • For 10 x 2.5'' SAS/SATA/NVMe/AnyBay and 6 x 2.5'' SAS/SATA + 4 x 2.5'' AnyBay configuration:
    • The ambient temperature must be limited to 25°C or lower, TDP should be between 300 and 350 Watt, and high-performance fan-packs must be installed.

    • The ambient temperature must be limited to 30°C or lower, TDP should be limited to 300 Watt or lower, and high-performance fan-packs must be installed.

  • For 8 x 2.5'' NVMe/AnyBay/SAS/SATA and 4 x 2.5'' NVMe/SAS/SATA configuration, the ambient temperature must be limited to 30°C or lower, TDP should be limited to 350 Watt or lower, and high-performance fan-packs must be installed.

Processor
