Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See Power off the server.
Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.
Disconnect the M.2 boot adapter cables from the system board assembly. See M.2 boot adapter cable routing for more information on the internal cable routing.
Remove the M.2 boot adapter.

Unfasten the screw that secures the end of the M.2 boot adapter to the front air baffle.
Unfasten the screw that secures the middle of the M.2 boot adapter to the front air baffle.
Slide the M.2 boot adapter backward and lift it out of the front air baffle.
Disconnect the cables from the M.2 boot adapter.

Loosen the screw on the signal cable.
Tilt the connector and remove it.
Remove the power cable.

Unhook the wire bail on the cable from the connector.
