Synchronous mirroring – missing reserved capacity

The drives associated with the synchronous mirroring reserved capacity are no longer accessible. This problem is caused by the removal of all of the associated pool or volume group's drives or a loss of power to one or more drive shelves.

Important
When the first synchronous mirrored pair is created on a storage array, capacity is automatically reserved from one of the storage array's volume groups or disk pools to track changes to the mirrored pair's primary volume.

Recovery Steps​

  1. Have the drives associated with the pool or volume group shown in the Details area been removed?

    • If yes, re-insert the drives back into the drive shelf. Wait until all of the drives are displayed in the Hardware page, and then go to step 11.

    • If no, go to step 2.

  2. Does the drive shelf containing the associated pool or volume group have power?

    • If yes, go to step 6.

    • If no, go to step 3.

  3. Are the drive shelf's power supplies connected to an operating power source?

    • If yes, go to step 4.

    • If no, correct the problem and go to step 11.

  4. Are the power switches on the shelve's power supplies in the on position?

    • If yes, go to step 5.

    • If no, correct the problem and go to step 11.

  5. Are any power supply related problems being reported in the Problems area for power supplies in the drive shelf?

    • If yes, correct the problem using the recovery steps in the associated procedure listed in the Problems area.

    • If no, contact your Technical Support Engineer.

  6. Save the storage array profile to aid in re-creating the current mirroring configuration.

    1. Go to Support > Support Center.

    2. Select the Storage Array Profile link in the Launch detailed storage array information section, and then save the profile to a file.

  7. Delete all of the synchronous mirrored pairs on the array.

    1. Go to Storage > Synchronous Mirroring.

    2. Highlight a mirrored pair from the table.

    3. Select Remove under Uncommon Tasks.

    4. Repeat step b and c until every synchronous mirrored pair on the storage array has been removed.

  8. Select the Save icon in the Recovery Guru to save the remaining steps to a file. These steps will no longer be accessible after you complete step 9.

  9. Deactivate the synchronous mirroring feature by selecting Deactivate under Uncommon Tasks.

  10. Use the information saved in step 6 to re-create the deleted mirrored pairs by selecting Mirror Volume.

  11. Select Recheck to ensure the problem has been resolved.
