Remove the PCIe riser card

Follow the instructions in this section to remove the PCIe riser card.

About this task

Attention
  • Read Installation Guidelines and Safety inspection checklist to ensure that you work safely.

  • Power off the server and peripheral devices, disconnect the power cords from the primary chassis, then disconnect the power cords from the secondary chassis. See Power off the server.

  • Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.

  • If the server is installed in a rack, remove the server from the rack. See Remove the server from rails.

Note
  • The left PCIe riser card is shown below as an example, the replacement procedure for the right PCIe riser card is similar.

  • Ensure that you populate the PCIe riser card in the sequence below:
    1. Primary chassis left riser card
    2. Primary chassis right riser card
    3. Secondary chassis left riser card
    4. Secondary chassis right riser card

Procedure

  1. Make preparation for the task.
    1. Remove the front top cover. See Remove the front top cover.
    2. Remove the rear top cover. See Remove the rear top cover.
    3. Remove all the PCIe adapters. See Remove a PCIe adapter.
    4. If you are replacing the PCIe riser cables, remove the upper processor board (CPU BD) air baffle and upper processor board (CPU BD). See Remove the upper processor board (CPU BD) air baffle and Remove the upper processor board (CPU BD).
  2. Disconnect the power cables from the PCIe riser card.

  5. If necessary, disconnect the PCIe riser cables from the lower processor board (MB) and the power cables from the PDB. See Riser card cable routing.

After you finish

  1. Install a replacement unit. See Install the PCIe riser card.

  2. If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
